The nursing and medical team provide assessment, treatment, diagnosis, emergency care and training across the 24 hour provision.  We also have close links between School, Adult Services and College.   The nursing team includes epilepsy specialist nurses who work closely with consultants and specialist GPs.

The local GPs hold clinics on site each week and these enable epilepsy medication to be monitored and other illnesses to be treated promptly.

The nursing agency provides nursing care in the homes of all adult residents as well as having the option to access separate nursing beds. If a resident has been admitted to hospital for urgent or emergency treatment then it is important that they are supported by care staff when they are in hospital whenever practicable. It is also important that they are discharged to familiar surroundings as soon as possible because they often find the new surroundings distressing. These nursing beds, which are monitored close to the nurses offices, enable quicker discharge.

The nurses are involved in the mandatory annual training of staff on epilepsy and the administration of medication.

The school has close links with national Hospital for Epilepsy  whose consultants visit on a regular basis and provide access to expert specialist care and diagnosis.
