St Elizabeth’s Adult Residential Care offers a nationally renowned centre of excellence in the care of people with complex neurological and other conditions caused or complicated by epilepsy, often with other associated disabilities. Our intensive health and therapeutic support services are a key feature of the provision at St Elizabeth’s.

There are over 100 adult residents living at St Elizabeth’s. Their accommodation comprises 13 purpose built bungalows, each of which is home to between six and 10 residents. Residents are placed in peer households with people of a generally similar age with similar support needs. Each bungalow has its own committed and experienced staff team who are qualified and trained to meet the needs of the particular clients they support. Thus, whilst working to the same high standards across the service, each bungalow has its own unique character.

Adult Services can also offer planned or emergency respite care admissions when appropriate. All respite clients receive a full assessment of need and are able to access our wide range of social and leisure opportunities.

The ethos of the organisation has a strong sense of care and compassion for people with learning disabilities, giving a high profile to supporting and enabling people to develop their skills and participate in meaningful activities and work that reflects their abilities, wishes and needs. Click here for more information.

St Elizabeth’s Day Activities and Social Enterprises provide people with a wide range of stimulating learning, leisure, social and vocational opportunities to meet their needs, interests and aspirations. These include physical activities, such as horse-riding, trampolining, music, drama, arts and crafts, therapeutic multisensory experiences and the opportunity for clients to learn or further develop IT skills.

As well as enjoying day and evening/weekend activities on site, the Centre has a fleet of vehicles to enable residents to have regular access to facilities and events in the local community.

St Elizabeth’s also has four Social Enterprises where residents (and College learners) can participate at a level that suits them. Ash Vale and The Orchard Project offer experience in organic horticulture, growing and selling fruit, flowers and vegetables. The Drawing Room produces award winning ceramics, paintings and prints. The Jewellery Project makes and sells attractive jewellery in our own High Street shop/gallery in Bishop’s Stortford. Each social enterprise offers incentive payments to those who attend, and at Ash Vale the opportunity to work towards a City & Guilds qualification.

Our popular day activities and social enterprises are also available to people who are living in the community who wish to participate as day clients, or those who are visiting St Elizabeth’s for respite care. Click here for more information.

St Elizabeth’s is committed to providing an effective and quality service to assist clients and their families in need of a respite service. All our social care and health staff have specialist training (including epilepsy training) to enable them to confidently and competently meet the needs of service users.

Our multidisciplinary staff work in a collaborative and coordinated manner to ensure that each individual has an appropriate daily social care and health programme suited to their abilities, aspirations and needs.

Within the Emilie Schneider Centre we currently have two rooms exclusively for our respite services (one with en-suite facilities). In Summer 2011 we are opening a new project, Nichole House, which will have five en-suite bedrooms with specialist equipment and staff to support adults with a variety of complex needs.

Set in safe, spacious grounds, the Centre also provides full access to our wide range of on and off site social, leisure and vocational opportunities (Monday to Friday) for all respite care users. For more information click here
