St Elizabeth’s Centre was established in 1903 in a 68 acre parkland setting at Much Hadham by The Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross of Liege. The Centre specialises in the fields of epilepsy, associated neurological disorders and other complex medical conditions. The Centre also provides for children within the autistic spectrum. St Elizabeth's is one of only two national epilepsy centres offering a range of services to all age groups with learning disabilities.
The Centre provides holistic care, support, health and education services in a safe environment for very vulnerable people recognising them to be unique individuals who should be valued, supported and enabled to maximise their personal potential in all areas of life. All referrals are welcomed regardless of faith, culture or ethnicity.
Over the past 100 years St Elizabeth’s has grown and developed to comprise:
The Sisters dedicate their work and their lives to demonstrate how they believe love of God and love of neighbour can be combined in a compassionate vision of caring for all people, bringing hope and joy in accordance with enduring gospel values. Recognising the humanity in everyone and treating all people with dignity and respect, the Congregation works with some of the most vulnerable people in society to bring to life Christ's words, "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full". The Congregation's ethos, example and inspiration to staff in over 100 years service to the community help give St Elizabeth's its special and noticeably person centred culture, where equal importance is attached to recognising and responding to people's abilities as much as to their needs.
