Residential Accommodation Adapted for Specific Mobility Needs

School 16-19 Building

St Elizabeth’s School has nine purpose built houses. All offer ground floor accommodation and some are adapted for children and young people with specific mobility needs. All of our houses are fully accessible for disabled pupils and students.

Houses are bright, welcoming, decorated and furnished to a high standard. Staff work hard to create a family atmosphere throughout the residential accommodation providing the pupils and students with a ‘home from home’ for their time at school. Houses have communal living areas, dining areas and kitchens to promote social interaction and friendships. The houses are a fun place to be.

Some children and young people may prepare meals as part of their Independent living skills targets.  A variety of dietary needs relating to health, preferences and culture are provided for within the menu. Many of the children and young people are involved in food purchasing and menu planning on a weekly basis.

Each young person has their own bedroom which they are encouraged to personalise with their belongings, posters, photos and bedding if they so wish. Many of the bedrooms have en suite shower and toilet facilities.

Every bedroom is linked to specially designed night monitoring equipment. Audio, movement and visual technology is used at night by the waking night team to ensure the safety of all pupils and students. This ensures that all pupils and students receive appropriate, timely and planned care for their Epilepsy and other complex needs throughout the night.

"Feedback from parents, pupils and staff is unreservedly about the residential provision and the significant difference it has made to pupils lives".
