How do I apply?

You will need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form and an Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form. These take no time at all and once we have received these, we will contact you to discuss the next steps.

Will I be interviewed?

We will meet you for an informal conversation. This will be an opportunity for you to get to know more about St Elizabeth’s and the volunteering opportunities on offer, whilst allowing us to get to know you a little and understand exactly how you would like to help us.

Will you take up references or ask for other checks?

We will always take up references and for some roles we will require a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check.

What skills do I need?

This depends on the volunteering role - we will work with you to match the most appropriate volunteering role with your skills and experience and will make sure to provide you with the training and support needed to effectively carry out your role. Volunteering should be a positive experience for all concerned and we will do everything we can to support you in settling into your role.

Will I get any training?

You will meet St Elizabeth’s staff, who will explain what they do and where their role fits with St Elizabeth’s organisational structure.  Our staff will make sure you fully understand the tasks you are undertaking and how you fit into the bigger picture. You will receive an induction and formal training where it is appropriate to your role.

What kind of support can I expect?

You will be given a Volunteer Role Description and support from a staff member as well as training if required.  Whatever you do for our charity, we will make sure you enjoy volunteering with St Elizabeth’s Centre and have everything you need.

Do I have to make a regular commitment?

Some roles require a regular commitment while others are very flexible.

How much time would I have to give?

This depends on your volunteer role and the amount of time you are able to donate. However much you are able to give us, your contribution will be very much appreciated.

Will I be paid expenses?

Yes - we offer our volunteers all out of pocket expenses incurred as a direct result of volunteering.  However, we try to ensure that our volunteers do not travel long distances to their volunteering role and as a result of the relatively low travel expenditure we find many volunteers choose not to claim their expenses. This is recorded as a ‘donation in kind' towards the work of the charity, for which we are very grateful.
