Staff Training

At St Elizabeth’s, we have our own dedicated on-site Staff Development team to ensure all staff have access to important learning and development opportunities.

Induction

All new employees undertake a comprehensive phased induction including formal Orientation plus local guidance and mentoring designed to help newcomers settle into their new roles with knowledge and confidence.

Support given to all new care workers includes a comprehensive Six Day Orientation programme designed to enhance knowledge and skills and develop best practice.

Some of the subjects included are: Epilepsy awareness, Moving and handling, Infection control, fire safety, first aid and a skills course to develop managing risk behaviour.

All care workers are supported to achieve the Skills for Care standard of the Care Certificate in their initial months of employment.

Ongoing training and development

Staff are expected to undertake five days training each year to update, refresh and continue to develop their knowledge and skills. These are provided through a combination of accredited in-house trainers and clinical staff plus specialist external professionals.

Currently, we offer externally accredited training courses on-site, including:

  • Emergency first aid at work
  • Safeguarding adults/children
  • Managing Actual and Potential Aggression (MAPA)
  • Moving and handling
  • Equality and diversity
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Health and safety
  • Fire safety
  • Autism
  • Makaton
  • Fire marshal

 

Additional tailored in-house training includes:

  • Medication management
  • Epilepsy awareness
  • Dementia
  • Mental Capacity Act
  • Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS)
  • Food hygiene
  • Midas mini bus safety

 

We also offer workplace shadowing, coaching and mentoring support.

Qualifications

Staff are encouraged and supported to achieve all qualifications that are identified as essential or desirable for their role.

We are accredited to offer staff a range of nationally recognised QCF qualifications (awards, certificates and diplomas) from Level 2 to Level 5 and covering:

  • Health & Social Care (adult and children's services)
  • Specialist Support of Teaching and Learning in Schools
  • Business Administration
  • Assessor awards

 

We are also an accredited Investor in People employer.

Further Development

Every member of staff has their own personal development plan. Individuals are supported to attend study days and conferences and to apply new learning back at work, which also assists in vocational development and maintaining professional accreditation where relevant.

St Elizabeth’s also offers training in Leadership skills and support towards career development.
