One of the things that makes St Elizabeth’s so special is our multi-disciplinary approach. With our teachers, carers, health staff, therapists and managers working together towards a common goal, we can ensure that each individual gets the best possible chance to realise their full potential.
A key part of the multi-disciplinary approach is our on-site Health and Therapy Agency.
With a huge range of therapeutic services, specialist nursing teams providing 24-hour health support, and input from medical professionals at the top of their field – coupled with our fully trained care and teaching staff – our holistic care model ensures that those we care for can live their lives to the fullest in a safe and supportive environment.
This multi-disciplinary approach has been shown to improve the management of seizures, medication and behaviour. Enabling intensive monitoring and early intervention, our expertise can often stabilise or improve complex health conditions, enhance social and personal development, and can reduce the risk of unexpected – potentially fatal – seizures.
Working closely with our Education and Care teams, we can ensure a consistent approach, using a partnership model to deliver a personalised framework of assessment, delivery and evaluation to maximise individual outcomes.
Every person who comes under our care receives a full multidisciplinary assessment before starting – which is regularly reviewed – whether they are attending our School or College, living in our Supported Living setting or participating in our Day Activities. The Health and Therapy Team play an essential part in these assessments.
Partnership Working:
Our highly-specialised medical team are supported by consultant neurologists at the top of their field from The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Great Ormond Street Hospital, including:
- Professor Helen Cross: The Prince of Wales's Chair of Childhood Epilepsy and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Neurology at University College London’s Institute of Child Health, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust, London, and Young Epilepsy.
- Dr Meneka Kaur Sidhu: Consultant Neurologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, UCLH Hospitals NHS Trust and UCL/Institute of Neurology.
We work closely with these and other consultants and experts, and hold regular meetings with the Epilepsy Society and Young Epilepsy to share learning and good practice.
